WHERE TO FIND A "GROUND"
Some types of electrostatic experiments require a connection to "earth" or
"ground". Here are some places where electrical ground can be found:
During a science fair, sometimes you can use a metal table top as your
"ground." If nothing else is available, spread a long sheet of aluminum
foil on the floor and use it as "ground" (if the humidity is very low,
this might NOT work very well, but it's better than nothing.)
- A metal stake hammered into damp earth outdoors
- Cold water pipe, or metal faucet on a sink
- Screw which holds the plastic plate onto an electric outlet
- 3rd prong of any American electric outlet (dangerous for kids.)
