Some types of electrostatic experiments require a connection to "earth" or
"ground". Here are some places where electrical ground can be found:
A metal stake hammered into damp earth outdoors
Cold water pipe, or metal faucet on a sink
Screw which holds the plastic plate onto an electric outlet
Exposed metal electrical conduit in a building
3rd prong of any American electric outlet (dangerous for kids.)
During a science fair, sometimes you can use a metal table top as your
"ground." If nothing else is available, spread a long sheet of aluminum
foil on the table or the floor and use it as "ground" (but if the humidity
is very low,
this might NOT work very well, yet it's far better than nothing.)
