EMERGENT DELUSION I

PROPOSAL

"Emergent Delusion I" is a set of grey glass squares mounted on an outdoor
wall in bright sunshine. When passersby walk close enough so that they
cast shadows on the squares, brilliant circular rainbows appear on the
squares; rainbows which follow the motions of the viewer, with the rainbow
centered on the head-image of the viewers' shadows.

The effect is identical to the "water spray rainbows" seen in lawn sprinklers
on sunny days. Glass micro-spheres take the place of the water droplets.

It *might* be possible to make this sturdy enough to use it as floor
tiles. This would produce rainbows all the time, rather than during hours
when the sun was in the correct angle to cast shadows on the wall-mounted
tiles.

An early version of this device was built for the science activities room
in Dinamation's Paradise Park installation, Manoa, Hawaii
