Debbie & Rhett Mitchell (dragn@iquest.com) Sat, 15 Jun 1996 13:52:38 -0500 Hi, All! Since several people have asked about what home education mailing lists there are I thought I'd post this. I probably do *not* know all that are available, but these are the ones that I know of and what I know about them. (If my information is no longer current please let me know so I can update my listing. Thanks!) Home-Ed List Send the following command in email to "home-ed-request@world.std.com": subscribe This is probably one of the busiest lists anywhere. A digest form is available - subscribe, then follow the directions to change. Some people consider this "the" homeschooling list to be on. Unschooling List To subscribe to the Unschooling-list, send a message to majordomo@nilenet.com Leave the subject line blank. In the body of the message write: subscribe unschooling-list This is my personal favorite of all the lists. (The one I consider to be "the" list.) It's like a big crazy family, the best support group I've ever found. It doesn't always stay "on topic", and occassionally gets a little weird or even racy, but it's a great bunch of folks! HSTUAC (Homeschool: Train Up A CHild) Send the word "SUBSCRIBE" (no quotes) as the body of a mail message to HSTUAC-Request@vms1.cc.uop.edu. If you have trouble, please send mail to: HSTUAC-Owner@vms1.cc.uop.edu This will reach the lists owners. This description is from their welcome message: "This is a Christian Homeschooling discussion group, patterned after Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it." Although it will sometimes stray from the direct purpose, it usually never strays from our children's interests." Home-Ed-News List! Send the following command in email to"home-ed-news-request@listserv.prodigy.com": subscribe Sponsored by Prodigy. This description is from their welcome letter: " This unmoderated list is designed to serve as an avenue for online home educators to share news on a variety of homeschooling topics such as books, curricula, events, programs of interest and more. No Place Like Home (NEW) >From *your email address*, send email to Landry@premier.net and type SUBSCRIBE HOMESCHOOL NEWSLETTER in the subject and message areas. This is a weekly newsletter with a "question of the week" section, a "questions from subscribers" section, a "looking for curriculum" section, a "used curriculum to sell" section and a "business offerings" section. It's just starting out, but has started well and should grow. You can submit articles to be published or curriculum reviews as well. Home Ed Politics List Taking Children Seriously List Both of these I have misplaced the information for, but if you need it and can't find it (try Jon's Homeschooling Page on the web), email me and I'll look them up. There is a monthly (?) newsletter on AOL (Homeschool Cyber News), but I think it's just for aol subscribers. (I could check if anyone is intersted.) How's that for starters? :-D If you have information on one I don't have listed (or one of the ones that I lost the information for) please email it to me. I'm going to try to keep my list updated for future questions. See you on the lists!
